Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation On War-Footing To Keep March 15 Deadline

JAIPUR: Officials of the Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC) are burning the midnight oil to ensure the maiden run of the Jaipur Metro by March 2015. After completion of work at nine stations during phase IA of the Metro, the JMRC officials are now aiming at getting the various approvals and safety certifications.

After parleys with the state government, the JMRC had already committed to begin the operations by March.

“We have already obtained the safety certificate from the Independent Safety Assessor. Now, we will apply for things like rolling stock approval from the railway board, final signaling approval from the RDSO, Lucknow and most importantly the final approval for opening the section for commercial operation by commissioner of railways safety,” said Ashwini Saxena, JMRC project director, on Tuesday.

Officials are now aiming at applying for the Commissioner Railways Safety’s application by January 15. “After the application, he will visit the area a month after. It is going to be a detailed inspection for 3 to 7 days. After his clearance, we can start operations within 48 hours,” an officer added.

On the progress of various works, he said, “Majority of the stations are ready with facilities like escalators, ATMs and other amenities. Finishing work is on currently. Likewise, we have already floated tenders for parking at all the nine stations.”

On the kind of parking charges, an official, said, “We are aiming at very economical rates for the commuters. For cycle Rs 2, for two-wheelers Rs 5 and for four-wheelers Rs 15 would be charged for every 8 hours.”

The parking lot at the Sindhi Camp and Chandpole has lesser space since these places already have common parking lots.

JMRC officials are also aiming at giving nominal fares for the commuters. “We will try to stick to the fares we have quoted in the detailed project report (DPR) which is Rs 9 to Rs 17. The JMRC administration is now mulling over the projections given by fare fixation committee,” an officer said.

The officials will also lease out some space at various stations to eateries. “We will try to provide quality food at nominal prices for the commuters at the stations and will lease out some kiosks to the people interested,” an officer added.
